Nuquí: A Brief History
The town was founded in 1917 by Juanito Castro. Before being proclaimed a municipality in 1919, Nuquí was a corregimiento. Standing at an elevation of just 5 meters above sea level, it is located approximately 180 kilometers from Quibdó, the departmental capital. This municipality is bordered by Bahía Solano (north), Bajo Baudó (south), Alto Baudó (east) and the Pacific Ocean (west). The town's economy is primarily based on fishing, livestock, agriculture and tourism.

Getting to Nuquí: Two Options
By Air
Your first option is to take a charter flight to Nuquí Reyes Murillo Airport. Air connections are available from Medellín, Bogotá or Quibdó. Remember to purchase your tickets in advance.
By Boat
Your second alternative is the maritime route.
Departing from Bahía Solano (north), the journey takes 2 hours.
From El Valle, it will take approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.
Leaving from Buenaventura port (south), allow 24 hours.
When to Visit?
Plan your trip to Nuquí based on what you wish to see or experience.
The humpback whale spectacle typically occurs from June through mid-October. If you're planning to fish for the famous flying fish, it's better to schedule your expedition for May. Interested in birdwatching? You should be there in September to catch migratory birds in passage. From February through July, you can witness leatherback turtle nesting.
